  My wife and I just wanted to add our voice to those who have already recommended Captain. We couldn't be happier with the brownstone restoration work and we have already... read more recommended Captain to several neighbors who have seen the wonderful work Captain did for us. A factor in our selecting Mosharaf's team was the strong recommendation we received from two homeowners on our block who used Captain previously.

My wife and I hired Captain to totally redo the front facade of our late 1800s Italianate-style brownstone located in the Fort Greene Historic District. Scope of work started out as redoing the entire front facade and stoop and we subsequently expanded the scope to include making minor repairs to the mansard roof and replacing the downspout -- seemed a shame to not do that given how beautiful the rest of the front was looking! Our building had meaningful damage from years of neglect and the details around the windows and doors had washed away. Mosharaf was able to totally transform the look of our home to something straight out of an architectural magazine. The acanthus brackets on the parlor and garden floors again have the intricate leaf detail (each window seemed to take about two days of restoration work given the detail), while those at the upper floors have the curvy wave-like detail that brings back the original architectural character of the building. Our home is more beautiful than we expected.

Mosharaf communicated well with us often both via text and in person. Each day Mosharaf had anywhere from 3 to 8 people on the job site, with the number closer to 3 in the last phase given the focus on detail work and the fact that only a few folks can really do the highly detailed work properly --- that really is the part we didn't want to rush. Mosharaf and his team were also flexible in their timing and accommodated days we didn't want them to work (e.g., our daughter's birthday party) and worked well with another contractor (we installed bluestone out front to replace the concrete sidewalk/areaway). All in all we were told it would require about 4 months of work and it took two weeks longer which wasn't much of an inconvenience for us. We would happily do it all over again for the end result!!!

To repaint my cornice, he showed up when he said he would, did what he said he would do, did... read more it well, left everything neat, and did all this for much less than any other quote I got. I liked that he actually has a rigging license for the scaffold. Very few home-renovation contractors do. As a bonus, he and his workmen are very polite and a pleasure to deal with.

His men arrived on time, cleaned up at the end of each day and did a wonderful job. You can tell that Hossein and his team take pride in their work and care about the details.
